The North and South sides constitute flat lands along the main river, from which the slopes develop into the neighborhood areas providing for a hilly ride if you are traveling in the interiors of the city. The many neighborhoods around the downtown are located on the hillside which shields the flat areas in the North and South.

The light rail system called the T connects downtown areas to the southern interior parts of Pittsburgh and is the main commuting facility for the South Side population who travel to Pittsburgh city area.

The Monongahela Incline has been recently renovated, in 1994, and is a steep slope ride with speed of the transport at 6 miles an hour. The ride may not be efficient for its difficult route but is definitely a great source of scenic beauty that lasts as long as the rides.

The lines are built on the slopes of Mt. Washington, and are a great way to get to the base for neighborhood commuters in order to get to buses or the T.
