Make the city easy to navigate- Interesting facts about Pittsburgh Public Transit

Pittsburgh also known as City of Bridges is known for its vast network of transportation modes. The city, being bounded by its rough terrain of hills, cliffs and water bodies, is well connected by an immense web of roads, bridges, freeways etc.

Let's take a look at some of the Public Transits provided for the people of Pittsburgh

- Roads: Maintaining roads at Pittsburgh are a major headache because of the number of thaw cycles that dominate the seasonal fluctuations in the city. I- 376, popularly known as the 'Parkway East', connects the city to Pennsylvania Turnpike, which also includes the infamous Squirrel Hill interchange where a number of accidents and traffic congestions occur almost on a daily basis. Unlike other cities, Pittsburgh does not have a dedicated beltway bordering the city. Although, the three major highways form a triangular shaped freeway, but the inconvenient architecture force the citizens to use secondary transportation modes.

- Bridges: As the nickname suggests, the city has over 2000 bridges that vastly interconnect all the parts of the city. Fort Pitt Bridge, West End Bridge and Liberty Bridge are just a few noteworthy of the lot.

- Airport: Apart from the Pittsburgh International Airport, there is Allegheny County Airport, marked by the 1920's architecture, serves around 139,000 flights annually.

- Subway: Also known as the 'T', the clean and safe subway system of the city, connects the downtown with a four stop loop at major locations across the city.

- Public Bus: Besides the public buses provided by the authority, the city's port trust provides a Para transit programme for the elder and the disabled.

- Taxis/ Zip Cars: Car Pooling options, other than Taxis, provide the citizens with a Zip Car Account to avail to any of the fifty vehicles the service provides.

So, it can be said that despite the rough terrain and the inconvenient geographical conditions of the city, a well-managed and efficient transportation system make the life of the people of Pittsburgh comfortable.
