Pittsburgh is blessed with abundant natural parks and public green spaces-and the parks are truly considered to be the lungs of this modern city. Frick Park, Highland Park, Riverview Park and Schenley Park are the four most famous parks of Pittsburgh. The four above mentioned parks are looked after by the 'Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy'. The job of the conservancy is to preserve, renew, revitalize and restore these 4 great parks of the city in addition to promoting and popularizing them. These parks have an annual visitor numbering to 5 million and are actively funded and supported by the citizens of Pittsburgh.
Every year, mainly during the summer, there are several music concerts and a plethora of other activities happening at these parks and at other locations all throughout the city. The performances are free and open to public. These concerts are often played by renowned artists and bands and are a great source of entertainment.
Hartwood Acres, located 10 miles northeast of downtown Pittsburgh and spread over 600 acres, is also a famous park. This park, boasting of a Tudor Mansion, a stable complex, an outdoor stage and amphitheatre and acres of public gardens, host a variety of events and is very popular among the tourists. All of the above mentioned parks are open to the public throughout the year and do not charge any admission fees.
