Mellon Arena

The civic Arena is in Pittsburgh. It has mainly served as home to Pittsburgh Penguins, City's National Hockey League Franchise. It was the Worlds first major indoor stadium which had retractable rood. It has been named after Mellon Financial which purchased the naming rights in 1999..Built at the cost of US$22 million, in 1961. It's funding came from public private money. Its construction used about 3000 tons of stainless steel which came from city of Pittsburgh. Roof has the support of 260 feet arch and is not provided any internal support. This arena is no longer the home of the Pittsburgh Penguins. 8th April, 2010 was the last time the Penguins played here, and interesting so, they lost both their first and last games in this arena to the Montreal Canadians.
