Heinz Field

Heinz Field is an American football stadium situated down the length of the Ohio River, on the northern side of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The chief purpose of Heinz Field is to serve as the home stadium of the Pittsburgh Steelers and the University of Pittsburgh Panthers.

Heinz Field was inaugurated in 2001, at a total cost of 281 million dollars. The stadium was made keeping in mind the historical connect that Pittsburgh had with the production of steel. A monumental total of 12000 tons of steel was used during the construction of the stadium.

The naming rights for Heinz Field were bought by the locally headquartered company, H.J. Heinz, an American food company more famous for its ketchup. According to the agreement, Heinz would pay the Pittsburgh Steelers $57 million in totality till the year 2021.

The initial construction of the stadium was started back in 1999 and the very first football match kicked of in the month of September 2001. One unique factor about the stadium is that it is one of the very few stadiums around to have a natural grass surface.

Throughout the stadium's history, it has drawn flak from one and many over its natural grass surface, but the owners were forced to not switch over to an artificial surface due to constant petitioning from both coaches and players.

Heinz Field, with a total capacity of 65,050, has remained sold out since 1972 for every home game of the Steelers and is a must see for people on travel Pittsburgh.

Apart from football games, Heinz Field has memorabilia from the Panthers and Steelers. The ice hockey teams, the Pittsburgh Penguins travel to their away games from here. Heinz Field was ranked as the second best stadium in the NFL by Sports Illustrated.
