Duquesne Incline

Initially the Duquesne Incline was made for carrying cargo up and down Mt. Washington. Later the railroad was used for carrying passengers, especially the residents of Mt. Washington who were not able to walk the footpaths to the top of the mountain.

Many inclines were built, but most of them were closed; by the 1940s. There were only the Duquesne Incline and the Monongahela Incline surviving.
