The Carnegie Museum of Natural History is located at 4400 Forbes Avenue. You can find it in the Oakland neighborhood, in the east end of Pittsburgh. The museum is within walking distance of many famous landmarks, like Magee Women's Hospital, the University Of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University. If you're preparing for your visit, remember the natural history museum is not open every day. It's better to figure out the best visiting time. Pay a visit during the operation hours to accomodate your schedules.

The Carnegie Museum of Natural History is open from 10 am to 5 pm on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. On Thursday, the museum is available for visitors from 10 am to 8 pm. If you're planning to visit on Sunday, you may have a tight schedule as the museum hour is from noon to 5 pm. The history museum is closed on Monday and it's open only on Mondays between July 4 and Labor Day.

Please note that the above operation hours are just regular museum hours. The hours may vary on some special event days and major holidays. Take a look at the museum holiday hours.

The museum opens at 10 am and is closed on 5 pm on some major holidays in 2011, including New Year's Eve, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents' Day and Christmas Eve. You cannot visit the museum on the following days: New Year's Day, Easter Sunday, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. The Carnegie Museum of Natural History will be closed on these festivals.

After touring around the fantastic exhibitions, you may be a little tired or hungry and need a short rest. But no food or drink is permitted in the galleries. Don't worry! Carnegie Museum of Natural History is blessed with pleasant dining options.

Carnegie Cafe offers quality self-service dining. It's located on the first floor near the Fountain Entry. The operation hours for Carnegie Cafe parallel with the general museum hours. The cafe is open from 10:30 am to 3:30 pm, Tuesday through Saturday.

Located at lower level near elevator, Fossil Fuels serves guests daily from 10 am to 4 pm. On Sunday, it is open from noon to 4 pm. Fossil Fuels offers a wide array of family-friendly foods, such as pastries, salads, sandwiches and various beverages.

The Brown Bag Lunchroom and Vending area on lower level next to Fossil Fuels is open during museum hours. It accepts group reservations. The large area has assorted vending machines and a large seating area that can accommodate various guests.

In addition to the museum on-site dining options, guests can walk across the street to the South Craig Street restaurants. Or you can have a half a mile leisure walk down Forbes Avenue into Oakland. There you can find a wide selection of tasty and family-friendly eateries and fast food.
